Johann Pickl was born in 1957 in St. Johann im Pongau and has lived in Zell am See since 1995. Since 1997, he has primarily dedicated himself to contemporary watercolor painting, in which he has developed a distinctive personal style. His subjects include cityscapes, especially rooftops, as well as natural landscapes and flowers.
He first encountered contemporary watercolor at a seminar at the Goldegg Castle Art Academy under the direction of Professor Fritz Itzinger. Since then, he has continuously developed his skills autodidactically through intensive study. In addition to watercolors, he also works with acrylics and mixed media, employing techniques such as collage to create his impressionistic cityscapes.
Johann Pickl’s works reflect a connection between urban and natural landscapes, which he realizes with an expressive yet detailed painting style. His artistic practice is characterized by an intensive engagement with architecture and the surrounding environment, which he explores using various techniques and on diverse materials such as paper and canvas.
